Joyce Perkerson Poole, A Heard Family Record-Based History, Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland 2005 Stephen signed his will on 29 October 1774, and died soon thereafter, as the will was proved in November 1774 in Pittsylvania County court. Stephen appointed his son, Jesse, to be executor of the estate, gave legacies to Jesse, Stephen and George. He named his wife Mary and four daughters, along with two of their husbands. Daughter Mary Heard was to receive title to 229 acres of land only if she had heirs of her body that survived her. If she did not, her two sisters, Susannah Standifer and Ann Gilliam, were to receive the 229 acres. Mary did not have any surviving heirs, and died before 1788, because the land was disposed of by the husbands of Susannah and Ann by a deed in Franklin County, Virginia on 7 April 1788. References
