1914 !EDUCATION: Mechanicville High School - rumored to have attended through 11th only - 2 possible reasons follow: (have found a copy of his HS diploma - makes this folklore?) One is supposedly the Latin teacher said one day, "What does a farmer like you need with Latin?" The other (per Doris Cassedy) is that he was needed to man the milk route. Doris Cassedy explained that brothers James and Henry (Harry) had a milk route. Spencer D Cassedy left school at end of his junior year to help with this milk route. Note that he graduated at age 15. Attended Troy Business College.

!BIOGRAPHY: Bought farm from parents after birth of Eleanor (1923) and before birth of Laura (1929). 1930's dairy farm with 20 some milking cows which was enough to support the family. 1933 Justice of the peace for 4 year term 1933 Hosted Baker reunion 1937 elected Supervisor of the Town of Halfmoon - pay $2500 per year (served 9+ years) 1938 elected Supervisor of the Town of Halfmoon 1940-1947 - on board of directors of Saratoga County Agricultural Society - Pres. 1945 - Secty. 1947 07 Dec 1941 - US enters WWII on the bombing of Pearl Harbor In 1943 Spencer can no longer get hired help due to WWII buildup, higher paying jobs in Schenectady attracted laborers from farms. Therefore Spencer sold off the dairy cows and went to beef cattle - I remember as Polled Hereford's. 10 Apr 1943 - Auctioned 61 dairy cows and heifers, 1 bull, 4 work horses, wagon, plows 1943 became the Chairman of Saratoga County Board of Supervisors (1 yr) - pay for chairman was$250 in additian to $2500 for being a supervisor 02 Sep 1945 Japanese sign document of surrender on battleship in Tokyo bay 1946 Chairman of Law and Finance Committee of board of supervisors 1947 Chairman of County Roads Committee of board of supersivors, Farm Bureau representative 7 Mar 1947 - resigned as Supervisor of the Town of Halfmoon 10 Mar 1947 - appointed as County Auditor - pay $2600 per year- My Mom (Laura Bitter) recalls the following: As County Auditer, he had an office is Saratoga Springs (31 Woodlawn Ave.) which he went to as needed. The job included a secretary who kept the office open regular hours. Each year at Christmastime they would exchange gifts. The secretary would invariably get hime a necktie, used and not too clean. I can only imagine what my grandmother must have thought. 13 Oct 1948 - became a member of Selective Service Board 25 Jun 1950 - beginning of Korean War 1952 recieved recognition from The Navy Releif Society 04Jun1952 - Auctioned tractors, implements (baler, wagons, rake, elevator, corn harvester) piclup, stock water troughs, 1000 bales of hay, air compressor 1953 Secretary Treasurer of Saratoga County Mutual Fire Insurance Company 27 Jul 1953 - armistice of Korean War Apr 1955 - Saratoga County Jury Commissioner 21 Sep 1955 - resigned from Local Board No. 32 Selective Service Board 195? - Hosted Baker reunion 1959 (December) retired from Saratoga County Board He was also active in the 4H division of the Saratoga County Extension Service 10 Sep 1962 - received life membership from Association of Commissioners of Jurors aft 1965 - Sold house to Jessie & Eddie Farron (Dave Leggett's sister), they lived in it a couple of years, then sold to strangers. The strangers got divorced, the man still occupies house.

    Cassedy Dies; Ex-Supervisor Of Half moon
    SARATOGA SPRINGS-SpencerD. Cassedy, 74, of RD 1Greenfield Center, former supervisor
    of the town of Halfmoon, died suddenly yesterday at SaratogaHospital.
    Born in the Town of Halfmoon, Mr. Cassedy had lived in Greenfield Center the last seven years.
    He was secretary treasurer for the Saratoga County Mutual Fire Insurance Co. the .last 20 years. Mr. Cassedy was a member of the United Methodist Church of Saratoga Springs. He had served as Saratoga County auditor and was a former county commissioner of jurors. Mr. Cassedy was a past president of the Saratoga County Agricutural Society and was active in the 4-H Division of
    Saratoga County.Extension Service. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris' C. Cassedy; two
    daughters, Mrs. David Leggett of Mechanicville and Mrs. Victor Bitter of Grahamsville, N.Y.
    Ten grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dunn Funeral Home, Mechanicville.
    The Rev. Robert F. Trost. pastor of the United MethodistChurch of Saratoga Springs, will
    officiate. Burial will be in Hudson.View Cemetery. -Mechanicville. The funeral home will be
    open from 2 t6 4 p.m. and after 7 p.m. tomorrow.
    Memorial contributions maybe made to the Heart Fund.
