James I and Minnie lived on farm in Mechanicville until sometime after the birth of Eleanor and before the birth of Laura, that being when Spencer and Anne moved to the farm. James I and Minnie then lived on one of the floors of the "Aunto Cornelia" house in Stillwater on the Hudson riverbank. Mom (Laura) remembers visiting as a child, she remembers a big country kitchen with a rocking chair in the corner that James I occupied. There was a plaque on the wall above the rocker that had a silouette of two black people, one of whom was captioned "Kiss me Rastus, nothing makes me sick". Mom (Laura) also remembers him for always having a stick of gum for her. |
