  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 BIOGRAPHY: Solomon Agla was born to John and Esmerelda at the Wilcox Farm on the 1st of January 1835. In the 1851 Census for Colchester, Solomon was shown as living with his brother Martin, Martin's wife Mary J., their son John(Ezra), and Mary's parents Russell and Barbara Baldwin. This was at the Baldwin farm, and two of Mary's younger brothers also lived there. The name recorded for Solomon, Martin, and Martin's wife and son was Eagley. The ages given were Solomon 17, Martin 23, Mary 18, and the Baldwin children as John 15, and Albert 11. The ages are not correct since Solomon and Mary had birth dates 4 weeks apart in January of 1835, and yet their ages are given as one year apart.
Martin Agla bought a 100 acre farm at the Junction of Highway #18 and Arner Townline in the Township of Gosfield South, Essex County, Ontario, Canada. He later sold 50 acres to Solomon and moved to Colchester South Township in Essex County.
Solomon Agla lost his left arm in a threshing accident when he was 22, and he then began an import/export business of tea and produce between Detroit Michigan and Essex County, Ontario. In the 1861 Census for Colchester South Townshiphe was listed as a "pedlar" On the 22nd of April 1866, he married Louisa Adelaide Gillespie. When they were first married they lived in a log cabin near Arner, but after Solomon bought the 50 acres from Martin, he built a house on the property and they lived there the rest of their lives. They had eight children, but two of the children died quite young. Solomon was a farmer, postmaster, school trustee, pathmaster(road superintendent), and a member of the Reform Party. He was said to be a cousin of Madam Schumann-Heink, the Gernab opera star, and he himself had an excellent voice and was renowned for his singing. He had played the violin before losing his arm. He died on 21 January 1928 at his home in Arner age 94.
