"Although definite proof of Soloman's father has not been established, very strong evidence points toward the conclusion that it was John Roe, Sr. For example: In 1819, Soloman Roe sold 40 acres of land located on the north side of Landrum's Creek. Contained within the deed is this phrase "being part of the land belonging to the said Roe's father." The only Roe recorded to own land in Chatham County at that time was John Roe, who is obviously the ancestor of the Rowe family that became rather prominent throughout Chat ham County. Soloman was born around 1763 which was about the same time his father moved to Chatham County. Soloman himself was also prominent and owned large tracts of land. The US Census for Chatham County dated 1790 records th at Soloman Roe listed two males under 16 years of age in his household. Most likely, these were his sons John and James. He also listed five free white females, but all of their names could not be ascertained. Several there were mentioned in his will were Nancy Ellis, Sarah Morphis, wife of John Morphis, and Millie Argo. Millie had married Hammons Argo, with the marriage bond recording Soloman's signature as witness. Other records taken form the Courtho use minutes indicated that John served as Constable around 1800." -- Jimmy Revell
