Throughout his life, John spelled his name as "ROWE" which is how it is used by the family ever since. In 1819, John purchased a tract of land which now contains the Pittsboro-Goldston Highway bridge and is just across the road from the William Brantley lands. The land was held by the family until it was eventually sold to Henry Burns Jones who owned the land until his death in 1937 when it passed to his son, John Burns Jones. As of 1941, John Jones still lived on the property.
