Following family tradition, apprenticed as a cordwainer, as were his younger brother Thomas and Hiram. In Baltimore by 1835. In the Baltimore census of 1840, his household including a young negro female servant. As the B&O Railroad moved westward, so did the Wardwell Family. In Grantsville at the 1850 census, $650 in real estate. After the death of his wife, family moved to Oakland, MD. -Samuel Wardwell of Andover & A Line of his Descendants-Stuart Byles & Marjorie Wardwell Otten In Allegany County Maryland at 1860 census with personal estate valued at $100. Registered voter in Allegany County 10 October 1866. Notice in Cumberland Alleganian 17 April 1846: Dissolution: The subscribers have this day dissolved partnership by mutual consent. S.W.
