He lived in Tywhapity Bottoms on Blackford Creek in Hancock County. He got elected on a campaign to dredge and straighten Blackford Creek to aid in flood control. He was a Republican returning to the party from the Teddy Rossevelt Bull Moose Party. When he was elected, he went to Lewisport and bought the second tailor-made suit that he ever owned. The first one was purchased for his wedding day. Before he was married, Simon spent six exciting years living on the western frontier. When Simon B. married Nancy M. Bruner, she was a school teacher who was boarding with his father, John Bushrod Lott. Nancy taught in the one-room Lott's schoolhouse. Simon and Nancy lived on a 150 acre farm at the top of Reynold's Hill in Hancock County where they raised four children.
