In the 1930 Census, he is named Samuel Porter, living in the household of his son-in-law Charles H. Baker & daughter Bessie M.

Type: _VARN

In the 1860 Ohio, Harrison Co., Frankling Twp, Silas is listed in the household of George Bliss & his wife Isabella. He is listed as "Silas P." followed by ditto marks indicating that his last name is Bliss. However, his age is given as 9-yrs and he is listed last in the household even though he is older than any of the three Bliss children. Ordinarily, census takers list children in birth order, leading to the conclusion that this is in fact Silas B. Porter, son of Silas Arthur Porter.

  7. "His mother died soon after his birth; and his father being left with a large family of small children, and bereft of his companion, he felt unable to give his infant son the necessary care and attention.
