Mr. Sidney Mitchell Mebane Jr.. MEBANE — Mr. Sidney Mitchell Mebane Jr.., 86, of 304 Avalon Drive, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Elma Laws Mebane, who survives. He was the son of Sidney Mitchell Mebane Sr. and Susan Frances Nelson Mebane, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Mebane Lumber Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs.. Diane Mebane Petty of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. William Paisley Mebane of Mebane and Mr. Samuel Nelson Mebane of Hillsborough; and a grandson, Josh Petty.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Bill Holliday, pastor of Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
