He sold that business when the Railroad decided toend his access to the railroad track during a renovation of their trainroute. His son, Sherman Jr., remembers his father telling that duringthe 1913 flood he had to walk on the train track to find his way to hiscoal business through the flooded area

Occupation? Bef 1929 owning a Road Building business. Together brothers, Sherman and Clarence,built roads in the small towns around Franklin county, such as inJohnstown. With the coming of the Depression there was no work and sothe business was dissolved.

Occupation? Aft 1931 After dissolution of the road building business, Sherman did whatever hecould to survive. He was very handy and so took on jobs hanging wallpaper, doing wood working, and even working for the WPA digging channelsand ditches to drain the land. Eventually he obtained a position withthe State government and worked downtown Columbus in the Bureau of MotorVehicles office until retirement

"Sherman Seydler worked at one job or another all his life, but he seemedto lack the enterprise and large contents and sea of some of the crowns.My grandparents had reservations probably because of an olddisagreement with his parents but they welcomed him when he stopped by.I remember him sitting in a wooden chair by the kitchen windowconversing with my grandmother. Sometime after his mother's death, heand his siblings sold the property they had inherited, and he moved backinto Columbus. I heard nothing more of him until he turned upunexpectedly and my grandmother's funeral ... in 1961. "
