[p. 23] Sarah [O'Killey, daughter of Jeremiah2 O'Killey] born Sept. 17, 1689; died Oct. 1736.
[p. 27-28] Sarahs O'Killey (Jeremiah2, David1) b. Sept. 17, 1689, d. Oct. 1736, m. Nov. 6, 1721 Oliver Carpenter b. abt. 1695, probable residence in Pawtuxet, R.I. Sarah3 O'Killey and Oliver Carpenter were Quakers, and were married in Sandwich Monthly Meeting of Friends. (I think there must be an error in the marriage date. His death occurred in 1727 after his father's will had been made and prior to his father's death and Oliver settled his son's estate.) She married Jan. 6, 1729 Robert Hall who d. Mar. 2, 1765. Both were of Kingston, R.I.
To substantiate the authenticity of the children I have copied a few excerpts of the will which was probated Nov. 25, 1727.
Oliver received 10 pounds
Solomon 10 pounds
Abiah a legacy upon becoming of age
Thomas a farm in East Greenwich
Joshua 200 pounds upon becoming of age
To younger sons 200 pounds upon becoming of age
Sarah received 200 pounds
A daughter (name illegible) 150 pounds (probably Phebe)
Children:
Phebe b. abt. 1714, married Jan. 14, 1762 John Reynolds
Oliver b. Oct. 24, 1716
Joshua b. Oct. 24, 1716
Sarah b. Oct. 2, 1717
Benjamin b. Oct. 5, 1719
Solomon b. ---
Abiah b. ---
Timothy b. April 10, 1723
Thomas b. ---; married July 14, 1737 Elizabeth Rye of Westerly, R.I.
Joshua b. Jan. 24, 1722/24 [sic, 1723/24?] (It is questionable to which Joshua this record belongs, Oliver Sr. or Oliver Jr.)
Oliver born July 4, 1727 (As with the two Joshuas recorded, there seems to be a question regarding the two Olivers, as both Oliver Sr. and Oliver Jr. had sons with like names.)
[Note: birth of children prior to marriage date - see comment in text about error in marriage date. However, given Sarah's birth in 1689, the confusion is more likely the result of a missing first marriage for Oliver as the wrong marriage date, as it was much more typical that the husband was older than the wife, as things generally went, and a man born in the 1680's would have been married before 1721. In fact, a more recent article in NEHGR, Vol. 151, p. 141, suggests she may have married Oliver Sr. and had no children, which appears to also be the conclusion of NEHGR, Vol. 159, p. 59. The dates given for Timothy and the second Joshua potentially conflict, suggesting there may be additional problems here, but the traditional literature on the Carpenter family is notoriously confused (e.g., Source:De Forest, Louis Effingham. James Cox Brady and His Ancestry: "The Rehoboth Branch of the Carpenter Family (1898) contains so many obvious inaccuracies and contradictions...", and apparently Austin, and others including De Forest himself).]
