Facts and Events
[edit] About Sarah LowtherSarah Lowther, daughter of Robert Lowther and Aquilla Reese is said [by some researchers] to have been the wife of 1) William Delayea, an Indian Fighter, and 2) Gen. William Darke (1736-1801), an American soldier who served with British forces before the Revolutionary War, was commissioned as a captain at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, a commanding Colonel of the Hampshire and Berkeley regiments at the capture of General Cornwalli, a member of the Virginia legislature and commanded the left wing of St. Clair's army at his defeat by the Miami Indians on November 4, 1791. He made two unsuccessful charges in that fight: his younger son, Captain Joseph Darke, died in the second, and he himself was wounded and barely survived. Darke wrote a letter to President George Washington that described the battle. Afterward, Darke served as a major-general of the Virginia militia. According to William Darke's wikipedia page, the two had four children: John, Joseph, Samuel, and Mary.[3] His three sons all died while young men. References
