Sarah is listed with her husband George Ezra in the 1850 U.S. Census. The 1840 U.S. Census only lists names of heads of households. However, based on the following information, I believe that Jacob Ercanbrack is her father:

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Jacob Ercanbrack, age 64, is a labourer, and his real estate is valued at $600. Listed with him are: Hessivith (spelling?) Ercanbrack, age 57 (probably his wife- 1850 census does not list relationships); Harriet, age 11, in school, (probably his daughter); Corydon Arnold, age 25, a labourer; and Lorenzo Ercanbrack, age 17, in school. Lorenzo is also a labourer. (Since Lorenzo is listed after Corydon Arnold, its difficult to tell if he is Jacob's son, or a nephew.) All were born in New York.

Based on the above information and since family sources state that Sarah was born and married in Moravia, and since she named one of her sons Edwin Lorenzo, and since the only other Ercanbrack in the area in 1850 is Phillip Ercanbrack, age 30, I believe that Jacob is Sarah's father. Also, I believe that Phillip and Lorenzo are probably Jacob's sons.

1880 U.S. CENSUS

In the 1880 U.S. Census, Sarah Hamilton, widow, age 50, is the head of household, living at 75 Owasco Street, Auburn, NY. (The record says "75", however, it's between 107 and 111 Owasco Street.) She is listed as "keeping house". Living with her are: son Ezra Hamilton, age 27, a keeper in State Prison; daughter-in-law (Ezra's wife), Vina Hamilton, age 26, a milliner; son Walter Hamilton, age 22, a cook in a saloon; son Edward Hamilton (probably Edwin Lorenzo), age 17, worker in a photography gallery; boarder Charles Wilkins, age 63, worker in a woolen mill; son (probably Charles' son), Warren Wilkins, age 19, worker in a photography gallery; boarder George Miles, age 23, a laborer; boarder Charles Cole, age 22, a miller; and niece Nellie Ercanbrack, age 34, a Milliner. The census states they were all born in New York; Sarah's parents were born in the Eastern U.S.; the father of Ezra, Walter and Edward, was born in Massachusetts and their mother (Sarah) in New York; and Nellie's parents were also born in New York.

Living in the next listed house at 111 Owasco Street are: her brother-in-law, Miles Hamilton; his wife, Lizzie; his children, Freddie and Maudie; and Sarah's mother-in-law (Mile's mother) Melissa Hamilton.

Hamilton, Sarah, widow of George, bds 52 Holley

OBITUARY - MRS. SARAH HAMILTON

Sarah Hamilton, widow of George E. Hamilton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. H. Prince (Anna Melissa Hamilton Prince), 52 Holley street, Sunday morning. The late George E. Hamilton, it will be remembered by many, as being for several years foreman in D.M. Osborne & Co.'s shops, and at the time of his death was alderman of the First ward. Since her husband's death Mrs. Hamilton has lived part of the time in Auburn and part at Chicago. The shock which she received by the recent sudden death of her eldest son, Ezra of Chicago, probably was the cause of her passing away. There survive three sons, George, of this city, Walter and Edwin, of Chicago, also two daughters, Mrs. Charles Prince (Anna Melissa Hamilton Prince), of this city, and Mrs. Reuben Radney (Emma Jane Hamilton Radney), of Spring Valley, NY. She leaves a brother, Amos Ercanbrack, of Moravia, and a sister, Mrs. Harriet Eigenbroadt, of Ellington, NY. Her Christian labor was not confined to words but so long as she had strength, she was untiring in her ministrations to the sick and unfortunate. She enters into well deserved rest and reward. From its beginning she was a consistent member of the Immanual Baptist church and at that church the funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3:30pm.
