'Sandy' Thurman was born April 8, 1903 in Commerce, Texas to Kate (Fenter) and Luther M Thurman and passed away April 21, 1999 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 96 years, and 13 days. Sandy married Effie Mae Morris on November 29, 1924 in Cooper, Texas. They lived in Cooper for two years before moving to Arkansas for one year. They moved to Beckham County, North of Sayre, in 1928 to make their home. Sandy was a member of the Sayre Church of Christ where he served as an elder for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son, Morris, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Betty Thurman, Sayre, 3 sisters, Artie Fuchs, Elk City, Faye Moree, Bakersfield, CA, Ruth Otta, Denton, TX; 1 brother, Clem Thurman, Ft Worth, TX, I daughter-in-law, Claribel Thurman, Edmond, OK; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
