  2.   NOTES ON MIGRATION
    We know that Sanford was in Wayne County, Illinois by 1851 when he purchased 80 acres of land on 15 July 1851. In 1852, he purchased an additional 200 acres. As a military veteran, he used military bounty land warrants instead of cash to pay for 160 acres in 1852. The remaining land bought in 1851 and 1852 he bought for cash at $1.25 per acre.
