Samuel Hodges Zartman was a carpenter by trade. He entered the Civil War in 1861 and served in Co. A, 74th Ohio volunteer infantry, till the close of the war. He was in the battle of Stone River, Va., and Kenesaw Mountain. He was drum major one year. On January 18, 1865, he was married to Annie Elizabeth Long. To them were born four children: 1. Albert, b. August 7, 1866, and died March 19, 1885. 2. Lucy b. December 15, 1869. 3. The twins—Foss and Marv—b. July 21, 1872. Miss Lucy Zartman resides with her mother in Jamestown, O. Foss Zartman is a graduate of the Jamestown High School. On November 24. 1904, he married C. Louise Bayly. They reside in Xenia, Ohio, where he is engaged in the business of buying and selling grain. Mary Zartman graduated from the Jamestown High School. On December 20, 1899, she was married to William G. Watson, a tailor in Jamestown. Samuel Hodges Zartman died August 29, 1906.
