Two of the more significant studies of the Tidd family were done by Mary Walton Ferris and Mary Lovering Holman, F.A.S.G.3 In each of these studies, there was agreement that Samuel Tidd died by 1642 when his widow had remarried John Southwick. Their assumption was predicated on the birth of the first child of John and Sarah (widow of Samuel Tidd) Southwick. A thorough examination of the records pertinent to Samuel Tid by Dr. Neil D. Thompson, F.A.S.G., revealed there was only one by that name present in this area and time-Samuel Tid of Woburn, who died in 1651
