Capt. Samuel3 Tibbetts (Jeremiah2, Henry1), of Dover Neck, tanner, born at Dover Neck in 1666, died there 9 Dec. 1738. He married first (by the Rev. John Pike), 2 Sept. 1686. Dorothy Tuttle, daughter of John1 Tuttle, one of the first settlers of Dover Neck, and his wife Dorothy (Tuttle Genealogy, p. 2); secondly. Rebecca (Nock) Willey, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca2 (Tibbetts) Nock and widow of William Willey, as early as 4 Feb. 1707/8 (New Hampshire Prov. Deeds, book 8, p. 69); and thirdly, Rachel -----, who survived him and is named in his will. He was deputy from Dover to the New Hampshire colonial legislature in 1715-16-17, 1719 and 1720. He had the grant of half a sawmill privilege in 1701; was selectman of Dover in 1702; was a captain in the French and Indian war; was a deacon in the church, and had a large tannery at Dover Neck, where the old vats employed by him were to be seen as late as the year 1890. He was one of the first whole share proprietors of Rochester.
