Account of [unreadable], brother of Samuel Spence
    14 Feb 1794
"Samuel Spence was killed on the Eagle Ridge, 5 miles on the road this side of Georgetown. That day he had been to a log rolling. Came home, it was a nice beautiful day. His wife had been collecting sugar water. He said to her he would go out and kindle a fire under the furnace, and boil it down that night. She had thought it better to leave it till next day as he was tired, and it was now too late. But it was a beautiful clear moonlit night, and the people were just settling out, and had lots to do. He went out and kindled his fire, and then came in, and got his supper. As he returned, within about 10 steps, he was shot. There appeared to be 3 Indians. One stood off at a distance, and held a horse, as they could discover next day."

[The Indians got away, and Samuel died two weeks later.]

He had moved out to farm in 1791. There were 4 families on the run {creek].
