Facts and Events
Samuel was a Baptist Preacher, serving as pastor of Well's Chapel Baptist Church which was orginized in 1756.(Among the first missionary Baptist in Duplin Co, NC) He served in this capacity until his death in 1783 during the revolutionary war. Until 1835 the church was called the Bull Tail Meeting House, probably because of nearby Bull Tail creek. In 1835 the church was called the Wells Chapel after which the nephew of Samuel, David Wells, served as Pastor from 1854 to 1856.
