Samuel and Lucy are buried with his mother and three of their children. His will bequeathed all real estate, stock and farming utensils to his son Augustus S. Holmes, who was to "pay son Calvin Holmes $100 and also put a pair of white marble gravestones for my daughter Sophia Holmes and a pair for me".
