One researcher speculated that Elisha may have spent the years of the Revolution in Nova Scotia. Whomever came up with that was in error: From Margaret Harris Stover's article on Samuel Holmes of Montville, Connecticut in the Mayflower Quarterly (references omitted) Elisha applied for a pension at Montville on 21 July 1832, giving his date of birth in Montville. He was living in Montville when he enlisted and served as a soldier in the Connecticut Line. On 5 March 1844 Griswold Holmes posted bond for the administration of the estate of Elisha Holmes of Montville with Nicholas Latimer as surety. In the 1810 census, his numbers were 2-0-1-0-1-1-1-2-0-1 He shows on the 1840 Military pensioners list for Connecticut as Elisha Holms 81 in the household of Jonathan Forseth Montville New Lond From the Barbour Collection According to the card file regarding Elisha's burial, he was a People's Advocate for New London.
