(17) Capt. SAMUEL FLINT, 6th son of Thomas (2), born
Sept. 29, 1693, and died March 10, 1767.
Farmer, and lived in South Danvers, on that part of the
homestead which fell to his lot, after the division was made
between himself and his brother Thomas, he having the house in
which his father lived. He was chairman of a committee chosen
by the inhabitants of Salem village, to prefer a petition to the
General Court, that the village might be set off from Salem, into
a separate town; was one of the first Board of Selectmen of
Danvers, and through life was much in public business, and was
an influential, useful, and worthy man.
He married, March 6, 1724, Ruth, daughter of John and Hannah
Putnam, who was born Feb. 13, 1703, and died Sept., 1760.
