Will of Samuel Dickey

The Last Will and Testament of Samuel DICKEY...of McMinn County and state of Tennessee is as follows: I the said Samuel Dickey being in good health...but knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die do make this my Last Will and Testament.
First I give my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried in a decent manner. The expense to be paid out of my estate and all my just debts discharged.
Then in the second place I allow my wife her maintenance of the plantation on which I now live while she lives with end of the house also one sorrel mare and all my sheep with all the house hold furniture to be divided and disposed of as she may think proper as to my present stock of cattle and hogs I allow them to be equally divided between my wife and my youngest son Samuel H. DICKEY, and my two single Daughters viz Rebecca L. Dickey and Nancy M. Dickey.
The plantation on which I live I allow for my son Samuel Dickey at my death to be his in fee simple with the incumbrance of his mothers maintainance her life time also I allow my clock or time piece to the said S. H. Dickey with all my working tools of every discription.
As to cash of cash notes I may have on hand at my death I allow to be divided in the following manner viz one hundred dollars to my wife with the legacy left her in North Carolina by her sister Anne Houston to be disposed of at her pleasure.
Fifty Dollars to S.H. Dickey the rest to be equally Divided between the balance of my heirs viz JAMES M. DICKEY, JOHN F. DICKEY, REBECCA L. DICKEY, ELIZABETH M. ELKINS, DAVID H. DICKEY, ANNIE GAMBLE, POLLY FOX, NANCY M. DICKEY. My waggon I allow for Samuel L.(?) DICKEY.
The above is the last will and testament to which I have set my name this 19th day of April 1836 in the presents of:

And I hereby appoint David H. Dickey and Samuel H. Dickey to execute this my last Will and Testament. Recorded January Court 1840.

1793 - 12 July. JOHN DICKEY sold to SAMUEL DICKEY (his son by Rachel) 200 acres for 100 Pounds (Sterling) on head branch of Rocky River on branch of Davidson's Creek including cross roads adjacent Wallings Corner, Brevard Creek.

Was one of executor's of father-in-law, James PATTERSON's, estate. The other was brother-in-law, James Patterson(Jr.?), who received 200 shillings and a pewter dish, plus 500 acres of father's land in Tenn.

    Samuel is mis-identified as the child of John Dickey and his SECOND wife, Elizabeth Leasey. This is one of the few errors in this book, he is of course the child of John and FIRST wife Rachel Tanner, who did not die until 1789.
