Sally Horner was baptised on 15th March 1806 at Pagham in Sussex, daughter of an agricultural labourer named William Horner and his wife Grace.
On 10th August 1824, aged 18, Sally married a labourer named Thomas Binstead. They went on to have five children baptised at Pagham between 1824 and 1831. The children's baptisms record that the family lived in the hamlets of Lagness and Nyetimber within the parish.
Sally's daughter Harriet was buried at the age of two on 3rd January 1832. Eight days later Sally's husband Thomas was buried. He was said to be 29 years old. Six months later Sally's youngest son, Henry, died aged one.
Sally married again on 7th December 1833 to an agricultural labourer named Joseph Bailey. They went on to have a further seven children between 1834 and 1846. The first four children were baptised at Pagham. The 1841 census finds Sally living with Joseph at Nyetimber along with Sally's father, her youngest surviving daughter from her first marriage and four children from her second marriage. Two months after the 1841 census two of Sally and Joseph's sons, Benjamin and Joseph, died in quick succession, being buried five days apart in late August.
Sally and Joseph then left Pagham and moved to Selsey where the next two children were baptised in 1842 and 1844, before moving again to Sidlesham where their youngest child was baptised in 1846. The 1851 census finds them living at the Mill hamlet in Sidlesham. They were still there ten years later in the 1861 census.
By 1871 Sally and Joseph had moved to Appledram. They later returned to Sidlesham, appearing at Mill again in the 1881 census. On this occasion Sally was described as a domestic servant.
Joseph died in 1885, aged 71. Sally survived him by less than two years, dying in 1887, aged 81.

ch. 15 Mar 1806: Sally daughter of William & Grace Horner
This baptism has been linked to the Sally Horner who married first Thomas Binstead and second Joseph Bailey on the basis that she consistently claimed to have been born in Pagham, generally around 1806, and in the 1841 census she was living with a William Horner who was probably her father.
