Thomas Binstead's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 10th August 1824 when he married Sally Horner at Pagham on the Sussex coast. They went on to have five children baptised at Pagham between 1824 and 1831. The children's baptisms all describe Thomas as a labourer. They also record that the family lived in the hamlets of Lagness and Nyetimber within the parish. Thomas's daughter Harriet was buried at the age of two on 3rd January 1832. Thomas himself was buried just eight days later, on 11th January 1832. He was said to be 29 years old. Sally outlived him by 54 years and remarried just under two years after his death. References
