Mattie Eve Swander was born October 24, 1874 and died at her home in Richland township, May 30, 1890. At the age of 15 years, 7 months and 6 days. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Richland Center, on Sunday June 1, Rev. Pattee of the Lutheran church of Fairfield officiating on the sad occasion. Her worth and the esteem in which she was held, were attested by the crowds of friends who came that day to pay their last tribute of respect. Dear Mattie is no more-is absent from home -from Sunday school, but present with angels. (Re: Auburn Courier - June 5, 1890)
