ROY SCOTT BROWNINGFairhope Veteran Killed By Leaping Off Moving TrainRoy Scott Browning, aged 38, of Fairhope, an Army veteran of World War II, was found dead along the north rail of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad tracks one-fourth mile east of Fairhope about 9:30 p.m. last Sunday. The body was seen by enginemen on a helper at the rear of a westbound freight train who reported at the next stop. Investigation by railroad and county authorities revealed that Browning apparently had been riding on a freight train and was about to get off to go to the home of his brother, William Browning, at Fairhope, where he resided. It is believed he slipped when his feet hit the ground and fell under the train. Evidence showed he was dragged about 40 feet and his body was severed. Browning was a son of Henry Browning and Katie Kiser Browning, and is survived by his wife, three young children and the following brothers and sisters: John Browning, Wood, Pa.; William Browning, Fairhope; Harry Browning, Mrs. David Shaffer, and Mrs. Clyde Logsdon, Hyndman; Mrs. Ellis Smith, Fairhope, and Mrs. Guy Shaw, Mrs. George Hartman, East Friedens. The body was removed to Ziegler's Funeral Home where Dr. Uphouse, county coroner conducted an inquest. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wed. in the Ziegler Funeral Home, Rev. C. E. Miller, pastor of Hyndman Evangelical Church, officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 11, 1947
