On Sep 12, 1918, Henry Browning 45, registered for the WWI draft in Somerset County, PA. He was born May 9, 1873 , a natural born citizen. Permanent address is R.D.#1 in Fairhope, Somerset County. He is a miner working for Fred Walmoth(?) in Meyersdale, PA Nearest relative is wife, Mrs. Katie S. Browning of same address. He signed his name. He is of medium height & build, dark eyes & dark hair, no physical disabilities. NOTE: his obit says born in 1875

Henry Browning of Fairhope, died on Wednesday, September 13, at the Everett Hospital. He was born on May 9, 1875 at Silver Mills, Pa., the son of John and Elizabeth (Crawford) Browning, both deceaesed. He was united in marriage with Katie Kiser, who preceded him in death. Surviving are ten children: John Browning of Wood; Mrs. David Shaffer, William Browning, Mrs. Clyde Logsdon, Ray (sic)(s/b Roy) Browning, Mrs. Ruth Hordubay, all of Hyndman; Mrs. George Hartman of Jeanette; Mrs. Ellis Smith of Fairhope; Carrie (sic)(s/b Harry)Browning of Ellerslie; and Mrs. Guy Shaw, of East Freedom. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters: Raymond Browning of Hyndman; William Browning of Artemas; Mrs. Anna McDonald of Cumberland; and Mrs. Anna Smith of Hancock. The body will remain at Zeigler's Funeral Home until the funeral on Saturday 16 at 2:30 o'clock at the Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Zeigler Funeral service. The Bedford Gazette, September 15, 1944 NOTE: on 3 out of 4 census, Henry was marked as born in Maryland.
