Facts and Events
[edit] Personal HistoryRosa Constantia Hodge was born on November 23rd, 1905 on the island of Saint Kitts. She met Basil Anderson Brown during the Christmas holidays after Basil came over from Nevis to participate in sporting events. The two married in 1940 and had four children together. Palmal, Violet, Charles and Prubin Brown. Shortly after their marriage they went off to Curacao and had some years there. They sent two of their sons, Charles and Prubin back to St. Kitts in 1955 to spend several years with one Miss Williams. In 1960, Basil and Rosa moved back to St. Kitts and lived in Figtree. Rosa was known as a very caring woman. Those younger than her said that she was like a mother to them, and older folks called her Mama Brown because of her service. She helped many people find their own successes and sometimes used her own money to bring others to Curacao, giving them room and board until they were able to fare for themselves. She sold kerosene oil for use in lamps and cooking stoves. Rosa had two children before meeting Basil. In 1961, Govin, one of her sons from a previous relationship passed away after falling and hitting his head. Govin's death affected Rosa until she passed away on December 19, 1969. December 19th coincides with the birth date of her daughter-in-law Maria Brown. Image Gallery
