[edit] Personal HistoryArabella Duncan was the daughter of Frances Mason. She was born in Saint Kitts on February 15, 1898. In 1923 she moved to New York on a ship named Guiana[2]. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen on November 28, 1939[3]. From as early as 1935 to 1940 she rented a house at 49 West 116 Street, New York for $32 per month and provided lodging for Beatrice Spence, who was 4 years older than her at the time. In 1940 it was reported that she worked as a house maid for $280 per month. Her highest level of education at this time was the 4th grade of elementary school.[4]. Arabella visited Bermuda at some point for an unspecified amount of time. She returned to New York on July 18, 1948 by way of Pan American Airways[5]. Arabella had moved to 51 West 116 Street in Manhattan by 1947[6]. In 1960, her 15 year old niece, Violet Brown by her sister Rosa Hodge moved from St. Kitts to live with her in New York at this same address. Arabella Duncan passed away in New York on July 1, 1971 at the age of 73. References
