Obituary

ST. PARIS - Roger O. Massie, age 83, of Saint Paris passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 in his residence. Roger was born on November 27, 1937 in Champaign County OH, the son of the late Walter and Elva (Slagle) Massie. He married his high school sweetheart Sandra Kay Callison on April 21, 1956 and she survives.

His children include Gregg (Roger, Taylor), Mark and wife Lorraine (Troy, Kyle), Tammy Campbell and husband Bill (Betsy, Rachel, Hannah), Mindy Shirk and husband Scott (Craig, Audrey, Gunner), and Kurt (who proceeds him in death), his wife Heather (Ace-deceased, Brady, Nick, Jessica). Roger had 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who called him "Pa," as well as many other adopted family members (you know who you are).

Roger above all loved his family and was happiest when they were all together. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and still very active up to age 82. He passed on his love for hunting to his sons, grandsons, and granddaughters. He loved camping, boating, campfires, snowmobiling, and was an excellent archer with many achievements and awards from his younger years. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events and bragged about their athletic and educational achievements. Roger had fond memories of Westville High, Westville basketball, and his many friends.

Roger was a member of Myrtle Tree Baptist Church where he also attended as a small boy. He loved Myrtle Tree and would invite many a stranger, family, or friend to visit.

Roger is also survived by sisters Agnes Lemmon, Eleanora Schneider, Rosella Lee, and brother Jerry. Preceding him in death are sisters Eloise Putnam, Marcella Mahan, Mary Lee, and brothers Francis and Raymond. Roger leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he enjoyed visiting with at the annual Massie Thanksgiving dinner.

Visitation for family will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, OH. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m for immediate family only with Pastor Tom Walters of Myrtle Tree Baptist Church officiating.
