Long Prairie Leader - November 19, 1953 - page 9, column 3 HEART AILMENT IS FATAL YESTERDAY Stephan Rites To Be Saturday Robert J. Stephan, a life time resident of this community, died yesterday at the Long Prairie hospital, victim of a heart ailment with which he had been afflicted for a year. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church, Msgr. George Rauch will officiate, interment will be made in the church cemetery with Joe Peis, Jr., as crossbearer and six nephews as pallbearers. Robert Joseph Stephan was born Marc 18, 1897, in Long Prairie township, son of Paul and Bertha (Rosenow) Stephan. He grew to manhood here and on Nov. 8, 1921, was here married to Katherine Muenzhuber. For years he was employed by the Great Northern on the local section crew. However, about a year ago his health became such that he had to terminate his work. During World War I he served in the armed forces of his country and full military rites will be accorded at the funeral. Surviving his death are his wife, Mrs. Katherine Stephan and a daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Rosella) Loegering of Poplar, Mont. Also surviving are three sisters and three brothers as follows: Mrs. John Bruder and mrs. Frank Loegering of Long Prairie, Nick Stephan and Mrs. Albert Petrie of Eagle Bend, Lawrence Stephan of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Siegfried Stephan of Poplar, Mont. There are two grandchildren. A member of St Mary's church, Mr. Stephan was also a member of the local council of the Knights of Columbus.
