    Roy Marshall, well-known former resident of Steele, died December 29 at Mid-City Care Center in Memphis. He had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ava Goodwin, in Memphis since 1973.

    Mr. Marshall was born December 4, 1892 near Camden, Ark. He was married to the late Roma Hastings Marshall, who preceded him in death in 1972. A son, Lloyd Marshall, also preceded him in death in 1969.

    Mr. Marshall served this community in several capacities. He was Mayor of Steele for about six years and that was during the time that Steele's water department was established. He served as postmaster here from 1929 to 1935. He was also a member of the local Board of Education, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

    In his early years in Steele, Mr. Marshall was a carpenter. He also was an auto parts manager for Steele Motor Company.

    Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of German-Aumon Funeral Home in Steele. Rev. James F. McCrary officiated.
    He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ava Ann Goodwin of Memphis; a granddaughter, Mrs. Larry Padgett of Memphis; two grandsons, Lloyd Marshall, Jr. and Donald Marshall of St. Louis; a great-grandson, Lloyd Eric Marshall of St. Louis.

    Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
