    David W. Marshal, 81, another pioneer of this community, passed away at his home in Steele Tuesday evening after an illness of two years and which had confined him to his home for several weeks.

    "Uncle Dave" as he was affectionately known by his friends in Pemiscot County, was born in Tell City, Indiana, on the 14th day of November, 1853. At that place he married his surviving widow, Amanda Jane Frakes, who was his constant companion for over 56 years.

    In September 1896, "Uncle Dave" with his family moved to Steele, or near where the site of Steele now is, and was one of the sturdy and substantial citizens who developed the tangled swamps of Pemiscot county. For 25 years he was actively engaged in the building and construction line and constructed hundreds of homes in Steele and surrounding community.

    Deceased was converted and united with the Baptist Church in 1884 and lived a Christian life the 51 years that completed his life span. He is survived by 3 sons: Ollie Marshall of St. Louis, Roy R. Marshall, of Steele and Lester Marshall of St. Louis; 2 daughters, Mrs. R.B. Cooksey, of Kennett and Mrs. N.B. Essary of Blytheville.

    Funeral services were conducted by his old friend, Rev. W.M. Duncan, assisted by Rev. J.W. Cunninghan, pastor at the First Baptist Church in Steele, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. German Undertaking Co. had charge of arrangements. Interment was made in the Maple Grove cemetery at Blytheville following the services.

    Steele, Mo.--Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for David W. Marshall, 81, pioneer resident of this county, who died at his home here Tuesday after an illness of nearly two years. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.W. Cunningham, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Blytheville.

    "Uncle Dave" as he was affectionately called by his friends, was born in Tell City, Ind., November 14, 1853. In 1878 he married Miss Amanda Jane Frakes, also of Tell City. In 1896 the family moved to the site of what is now the city of Steele, settling here and working with other early settlers to develop the Southeast Missouri swamps into fertile farm lands. For over 25 years he was engaged in the construction business, continuing to lead an active life until his last illness. He had been a member of the Baptist church since 1884.

    The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Amanda Marshall; three sons, Ollie and Lester, both of St. Louis and Roy of Steele; and two daughters, Mrs. R.B. Cooksey of Kennett and Mrs. N.B. Essary of Blytheville.
