Departed from London and arrived in New York aboard the "Saint Andrew" on 6 May 1835. Destination was Hartford, CT. Robert was a carpet weaver and, after coming to CT, he worked at the Hartford Carpet Mill in Tariffville as a carpetman. Robert's death was recorded in the Simsbury BMD volume covering 1847-1873: He died 26 Jun 1856 at age 89, married, b. Ireland, living in Simsbury, weaver, died of old age. He is buried in the Tariffville Cemetery which is across the street from St. Bernard's Catholic Church but designated as non-sectarian. It is located in the Hartford County Atlas on p. 26, M9. One stone has both Robert and his wife Delila. It says that Robert Holmes died June 1857 aged 83. The spot for a day in June was never filled in. |
