Introduction

"This volume contains a list alphabetically arranged of all the vital records of the town of Simsbury from its incorporation to about 1855. The entire record of this town, prior to 1855, is found scattered through Volumes 1 and 2 of Land Records and Volumes 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Town Acts. Reference to entries found in the Land Records is indicated by the abbreviation 'LR' and to those in the Town Acts by the abbreviation 'TM' followed by the Volume number. In the first book of Land Records a duplication of page numbers appears due to the recording having been done with the book reversed, and reference to this portion of the volume is indicated by the abbreviation 'LR1-A'.

This list was taken from a set of cards based on the printed copy of the Simsbury Vital Records published by Mr. Albert C. Bates, of Hartford, Connecticut, in 1898, and a manuscript copy, made in 1927 by Percy E. Hulbert, of Hockanum, Connecticut, of vital statistics found in Volume 5 of Town Acts. These copies have not been compared with the original and doubtless errors exist. It is hoped that as errors or omissions are found notes will be entered in this volume and on the cards which are included in the General Index of Connecticut Vital Records also in the possession of the Connecticut State Library.
