Robert Dunn, the son of Jeremiah Dunn, was born circa 1780 most likely in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. At about age six or seven he moved with his parents and family to northern Kentucky. On 26 February in Harrison County, Kentucky, he married Sarah Curry, called "Sally". Robert and Sally lived for several years in Harrison County, during which time they visited Ohio, where his brothers and sister had moved. During the year 1815, Robert purchased one hundred acres of land on Paint Creek in Fayette County, Ohio. Three or four years later, together with his brothers and sister and their families, they moved west to Indiana. In the year 1827 Robert was reported on the voting list in the Center Township of Hendricks County. Shortly thereafter they moved to Clinton County, Indiana, where Robert acquired eighty acres in 1829. Robert and his family were reported on both 1830 and 1840 census returns of Clinton County.
During the 1840's Robert and his family moved west to Lewis County, Misouri, where his brother Zephaniah Dunn operated a large plantation. Robert died in the spring of 1855. His estate in Lewis County was administered by his son-in-law Hiram Harrison. On 13 April 1855 Hiram Harrison came into court and deposed that "the said deceased (Robert Dunn) died leaving as his heirs at law the following name persons to wit: Jeremiah Dunn who resides in the state of Indiana, James Dunn who resides in Putnam County, Hiram Harrison who married Jan Dunn who resides in Lewis County in the state of Missouri, and Robert C. Dunn who resides in the state of Indiana, that said deceased died without a will."
