Richard Carleton Gile, called “Carl,” was born on 13 March 1884 in Norway, Republic, Kansas. He married Mary Esther Currie on 2 June 1915 in Belleville, Republic, Kansas. Mary Esther Currie was born on 6 August 1891 in Scandia, Republic, Kansas. Richard and Mary had nine children — eight sons and one daughter. Mary had severe asthma and moved with her family to Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado in search of better air for her lungs. She died there on 17 April 1955 at the age of 63. She was buried on 20 April 1955 in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Republic County, Kansas. Carl died on 15 February 1967 at the age of 82 in Belleville, Republic, Kansas. He was buried on 17 February 1967 in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Republic County, Kansas.
