Helena Annette Gile, called “Nettie,” was born on 24 April 1866 in Canton, Stark, Ohio. She was seven years old whe she came with her parents to Kansas. In 1883 and 1884, when she was seventeen and eighteen, she went to school in Belleville, fifteen miles away, to study to become a schoolteacher. She became ill and died on 27 March 1886 at the age of 19 in Norway, Republic, Kansas. She was buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Norway, Republic, Kansas.
