1851 Canadian Census:
Gainesborough, Lincoln County
26 James Smith Male 56 abt 1796 USA
27 Ann Clark Female 43 abt 1809 Canada
28 William Smith Male 12 abt 1840 Canada
29 Richard Clark Male 17 abt 1835 Canada
All were enumerated as members of the same family, living in a log house. James listed as a widower and blind, Ann listed as married, William and Richard are single.
The Supposition I have been working under is that James Smith and Ann Clark are brother and sister, that Richard Clark is Anna's son, William Smith is James' son.
It is also possible that Daniel Clark, 1800-1836 is the father of Richard. Daniel Died in 1836 in Thorold which is the town where Isaac Ostrander, father of Richard Clark's wife Deborah was born. However, The Will of Daniel Clark only mentions only two sons, Nelson and Wilson, no mention of a wife or son Richard. Brother Thomas Clark is an executor of the will.
