History Brief: Richard Clark's parentage is uncertain. It is believed that his mother is Ann/Anna Smith, married to Daniel Clark. However, neither Ann nor Richard are listed in Daniel's will along with two other sons. More research will have to be done to prove this link. Family records found along with his Naturalization Certificate and Photos indicate that he was born in Welland, Ontario.

Richard Clark first came to the United States through Wisconsin in 1857 where he made a Declaration of Intent to become a US Citizen. He at some point left the US, went back to Canada where he married Deborah Ostrander in 1863. He then returned to the US, this time going to Huron, Michigan where in 1869 he officially became a US Naturalized Citizen.
