Born in Holland in 1659. Baptized DRC. 5 June, 1659. Witnesses: The Noble Squire Reiner Van Duithe names buth toe Mensinck, Jan Lubberdinck the Elder and Griete Mols. He was three years old when the family arrived in New Netherland in 1662.He removed from New Netherlands with his mother and Stepfather, Hans Hermense (who died 26 Oct. 1700) to Constaples Hook, New Jersey. From there He moved to Philadelphia Co. PA. where he married as his first wife, Mary Schumacher. Reyneir was a resident of Germantown in 1691 when he applied for naturalization and at some unknown date he too converted to the quaker faith. He moved to New Castle County, Delaware, and settled on Bombay Hook Island. He may have been interested in the Labadist movement as the island was adjacent to the settlement of this sect in Maryland, where his brother Harmen was as active member. Moreover, Bombay Hook was founded by Nicholas Bayard, a son of Nicholas & Ann Stuyvesant Bayard, who was a prominent Labadist, and received the Island as a grant from Gov. Andros in 1675. Four years later her purchased it from the Indians (Henry C. Conrad, Hist. of the State of Delaware, 1908, v.2, p. 613; Charles P. Mallery, And. Fams of Bohemia Manor, 1888, p. 48).

Patsy Roller says that Reynier moved to Bohemia Manor with the brothers Matthias and Isaac Van Bebber in Cecil County, Maryland in 1704.

In the will of REYNIER HARMENS VAN BURKLOE, he mentioned his wife Mary, six sons and four daughters and friend Daniel Pastorius. (Cal. of Del. Wills, Newcastle Co., 1682-1800, p. 18). Daniel Pastorius, executor of Reyneir's will was the leader of the group of families brought over from Holland and Germany in 1683 by William Penn and who were granted the original tract of land which is now Germantown (Penna. Mag. of Histor and Biog., vol.4, pp. 7-8, 22-23, 31 &40).

Reyneir is named both in the land request of 1681 and in the will of his mother and stepfather, probated in 1701, at which time he would have been forty-two years old. In THE VAN BARKELO FAMILY IN AMERICA, by Mrs. John M. Spell, THE RECORD, vol. 84, p.198. Oct. 1953, he is recorded as :Reynier Van Barkelo.
