- Donna, I certainly hope your Barbara E. Crews is the daughter of Redman Crews Sr. I think she is.
Redman Crews Sr. had two children, Redman Jr, age 9, and Barbara, age 7, at home with him when he applied for his Rev. War Pension in 1832 in Carroll Co., Tenn. Redman's son, George M. Crews, went to Carroll County with his father. Redman Sr. died after 1833. George must have raised Redman Jr. and Barbara, after their father's death. George married Elizabeth Holloway. They later moved to Montgomery Co., Missouri.
Redman had no wife in 1832. It appears that he went to visit relatives in Carroll County. He had lived in Cumberland Co., Ky. for many years and owned land in Barren and Monroe Co., Ky. Monroe Co. was formed from part of both Barren and Cumberland Co. in 1820. and altogether he had 14 children and was married two or three times. He served in the Va. Cont. Line, Cav., in Henry Lea's Legion in South Carolina and was injured. His pension #S40054. Robert Crockett, Atty in Nashville, handled Redman's money and put it in the Nashville Bank.
Redman Crews was born in 1765 in Charlotte Co., Va., son of John Crews Jr. and wife, Sarah Redmond, da of William Redmond of Charlotte County. After Redman returned to Virginia after his service in S.C., he lived next to his brother, David Crews, in Halifax Co., Va. In 1789 Redman Crews moved to Cumberland Co., Kentucky, on his military land grants and owned land on Marrowbone Creek of the Cumberland River. His first wife was Sarah Morton, daughter of George Morton. I don't know the name of his 2nd wife.
