- David, I have all the Quaker Records and David Crews' name has never been mentioned with a middle name of "Milton". I also have copies of all the records available on your Capt. David Crews in Madison and Montgomery Cos., Va.
Someone in my line of Crews just stuck that name on him as they are determined that we descend from Capt. David Crews. We do not but we are cousins. My John Crews Sr. was a brother of your David Crews Sr. This same person has said that my David Morton Crews was actually David Milton Crews, but saying it will never make it so. My David Morton Crews, born Dec 18, 1789, was a son of Redman Crews and (1)wife,Sarah Morton, daughter of George Morton and Ann Moore of Charlotte Co., Va. Redman was a son of John Crews Jr.(III)and Sarah Redman, daughter of William Redman, a surveyor and early settler in Charlotte Co., Va. My Crews family lived in Charlotte and Halifax Cos., Va.about 20-25 miles east of your Crews family. Redman Crews moved to Cumberland Co., Ky. in 1789 from Halifax Co., Va. He was in Lee's Va. Legion and fought in SC in 1781 during the Revolution. Redman was injured during the war. He was a blacksmith and had 16 children and at least two wives. His father and mother, John and Sarah Crews, and her sister, Mary Malone, widow of Phillip Malone who was killed in the war, moved to Fayette Co., Ky in 1789. Redman's brother, David Crews, moved to present Patrick Co., Va. and died there in 1834. Capt. David Crews of Madison Co., Ky. joined Col. William Byrd in 1761 in Bedford Co., Va. and he was disowned by the Quakers for joining a military force. Col. Byrd moved his troops to present Kingsport, Tenn.in 1761 where they built Fort Robinson (now Fort Patrick Henry). Capt David Crews married (1)in 1760 Bedford Co., Va., his step sister, Annie McGahea, daughter of Samuel McGahea who died in Henrico Co., Va. David Crews Sr. married 2nd, Mary Ladd, the widow of Samuel McGahea. Capt. David Crews was a son of David Crews Sr. his first wife, Mary Stanley. David Sr. was a son of John Crews Sr. of Charles City Co., Va., who moved to New Kent County in 1726 and died there in 1745. The records are good on this family. Actually better than on my family line. See Hinshaw, Ency of American Quakers, Vol VI (Va.) I am from: Redman Crews, David Morton Crews Sr., David Morton Crews Jr., Jeremiah Richard Crews, David Henry Crews (my grandfather).
