Notes by Carolyn Bostian

Rachel Clarinda Owen Comments: She was the daughter of Samuel Tine and Sarah Ward Knight Owen. She married my gg grandfather, Zachariah Marion Monk. Together they had 8 children of whom, their youngest Zachariah Marion Monk, Jr. was my g grandfather. They moved from Alabama to Texas sometime after 1850 and paid taxes in Henderson Co in 1852. Zachariah enlisted in the Civil War on July 11, 1861 as the 21st. man in Captian G. P. Pate's Co., Beat 7, Henderson Co., TX, a reserve company. Then his name shows up as inlisting July 25, 1862 in Co. D of Cook's Regiment, Heavy Artillery. He became ill and was hospitalized in Houston, TX from Oct 1862 - Jan 1863. He received a 60 day furlough in Jan 1863. He returned to his unit Nov 2, 1863. Later the same month he was hospitalized again, this time in Galveston and died there on Mar 11, 1864. His wife Rachel Clarinda and her two sons are still in Henderson Co. on the 1880 Census. She dies on Oct 24, 1881. The Samuel Tine Owen Family Group sheet says she dies on Aug 4, 1899.
