It is not known if Rachel was Samuel's daughter by Ann or by a prior wife or "relationship." Her exclusion from sharing with her other siblings was peculiar, though the ten pounds she did receive was significant money back then. She may have done something (i.e. marrying wrong) to displease him, though in those cases the child was usually totally disinherited or with a token sum. Or she may have received her inheritance in advance (money or land); however, wills of the time typically noted that fact by language such as "... for whom I have already provided." The will names her only as "Reachel" with no last (i.e. married) name.

The status of Rachel is further clouded by reports that she was born in 1754 and married Ephraim Johnson and/or George Sharp. The 1754 birth date appears (uncited, of course), but that causes problems with the reported 1760/1762 marriage date of Samuel and Ann. A 1754 birth date could indicate Rachel was born of a different mother. A birth date of 1767 has also been reported. Furthermore, the LDS Ancestral File, which in and of itself is very unreliable, shows conflicting information.

The following regarding the Johnson family was received from a correspondant June, 2012:

Ephraim Jackson Johnson, who was born in 1768 in PA was possibly a descendent of the Ephraim Jackson family who lived in Pennsylvania. Benjamin Johnson married Mary Jackson and had several sons (Ephraim Johnson and Jacob Johnson as well as John, Abel, and Caleb... some daughters). I am guessing that Jacob was Ephraim Jackson Johnson's father and moved to Montgomery County.

The Ephraim Johnson [who may have] married Rachel Ingram may be an uncle to my Ephraim Jackson Johnson (who married Katherine Daugherty [-1830?] in Montgomery County, VA).

He [Ephraim Jackson Johnson (1768-AFT1832)] later moved to Hawkins County, TN and then to Pike County, IL where I think he died. Three of Ephraim's sons moved to Independence, MO.

The name Ephraim Johnson also appears in Hampshire County, VA where several tracts of land were purchased along the Great Cacaphon creek.

Ephraim Jackson Johnson (1768-AFT1832) married 23 April 1792 at Montgomery County, Virginia to Katherine Dougherty (FS-IGI online, but from Patron ordinance submission sheets.) So it does tentatively place that Johnson family in that county during the approximate period when Rachel Ingram, daughter of "our" Samuel, would have married.
