[Age 81 suggests birth about 1749. Note: Source:Wilder, David. History of Leominster, or the Northern Half of the Lancaster New or Additional Grant, p. 145, reports this as 16 Jul 1826, age 81. Since the birth date is the same, and the age at death doesn't calculate correctly with 1826, this appears to be an error.]

Children of Gen. James Reed and Abigail Hinds: Priscilla, b. 10 Aug 1749 [sic, this is birthdate of another Priscilla Reed, see birth record cited above], d. Leominster 1830, m. 13 Feb 1765 Thomas Carter, m. (2) 11 Oct 1773 James Richardson.
[Note: Despite giving the correct death year, there is no mention of the third marriage?]

  4. Source:Reed, Jacob Whittemore. History of the Reed Family in Europe and America, identifies another Priscilla Reed as the wife of Thomas Carter, the daughter of Samuel Reed and Mary Bullard. But the probate files of both men identify their respective daughters and show that this source is wrong. This Priscilla was named Priscilla Joslin in the 1800 will of her father, was widow Priscilla Joslin in 1824 when she petitioned the probate court to appoint a new administrator for her father's estate.
  5. *As cited, Lunenburg records show no Abigail in the family of James and Abigail, and Priscilla b. 17 Dec 1748. It is not known if it is significant that the record for Priscilla, alone of all the children of James and Abigail, does not say "born at Lunenburg".
*Norton shows Abigail b. 20 Jan 1748, and Priscilla b. 10 Aug 1749 (presumably the first means 20 Jan 1747/48, else Norton's dates are impossible due to inadequate spacing between siblings). The date 10 Aug 1749 belongs to a another Priscilla Reed who has otherwise been conflated with Priscilla, and appears to have incorrectly influenced Norton's arrangement.
*Reed shows Abigail b. 20 Jan 1749 and no Priscilla in the family of James and Abigail. The year 1749 appears to mean 1748/49, but Priscilla is named in her father's will, and leaving her out of the consideration means this is likely confused at best.
*Brookfield VRs show the birth of Abigail to James and Abigail on 20 Jan "174-". There doesn't seem to be a marriage record for the parents, but all sources seem to list James b. 25 Aug 1746 as the first child, implying that this uncompleted year could only be 1748 or 1749. However, one would think that the birth in Brookfield would precede their move to Lunenburg, so the assumption that James is eldest could be wrong, that he is simply the eldest one born in Lunenburg. Hence the year of Abigail's birth could be, say 1744 or 1745?
*Considering all this, it seems likely Abigail is the oldest daughter, born probably 1744/45, and Priscilla's birth is as recorded.
