1848 "Nacky Dowell (female) who died in Wilkes in 1848, leaving an estate that included a number of slaves. She was the widow of Phillip Sr., who was the only other slaveholding Dowell in Wilkes at the time. The nickname "Nacky" is borne out of the Wilkes census which shows that her daughter, Miss Priscilla Dowell was called "Lackey"

The 1850 census also indicates that the widow, Priscilla had died between 1840-1850. The administrator was Richard Gwyn (gr gr grandfather of A.L. Poe)
